In a global landscape characterized by escalating trade tensions, member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) have united in a strong declaration against protectionist measures, unilateral sanctions, and trade restrictions. These actions, they argue, threaten the multilateral trading system and impede sustainable development on a global scale.

During the 23rd Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the SCO, delegates emphasized that unilateral sanctions not only contravene international law but also harm the interests of other nations and disrupt international economic relations.

They highlighted the importance of harnessing the potential of regional countries and international organizations to foster a cooperative environment that is broad, open, equitable, and mutually beneficial, all while respecting international law and national interests.

Furthermore, the SCO members reiterated their commitment to combatting protectionism that violates the established norms and principles set forth by the World Trade Organization (WTO).

They underscored the necessity of strengthening a multilateral trading system that is non-discriminatory, open, fair, inclusive, and transparent, grounded in WTO rules and principles.
